Incentives & policy / EV charging answer authority
Is the federal EV charger installation tax credit available in late 2026?
Direct answer
No. Under current federal law, Section 30C applies only to eligible EV charging property placed in service through June 30, 2026. Equipment first placed in service after that date does not qualify for the credit.
What homeowners should know
- June 30, 2026 is the federal placed-in-service deadline.
- Historical federal credit descriptions may now be outdated.
- Earlier eligible installations may have different filing considerations.
- State and utility programs are separate and can still vary by location.
What the date means
The relevant milestone is when qualifying equipment was placed in service, not merely when an order was placed. See the Internal Revenue Service guidance for rules that applied to qualifying earlier work.
How the estimator handles it
Our planning estimate does not deduct a federal 30C credit for new late-2026 installations. This avoids making a new installation appear cheaper using an expired incentive.
What else to check
Contact the relevant electric utility and state energy office about active programs. Eligibility, funding, enrollment, deadlines and eligible equipment can change.
Sources and verification
These sources inform the general EV charging fundamentals. Local codes, fees and incentive eligibility require confirmation from the jurisdiction, utility or qualified electrician.
